Mission Information
Next trip
May 18 to June 2 2012.
Has GOD been nudging you to go on a mission trip?
Consider Malawi. It is called “The Warm Heart of Africa” because of the warmth and hospitality of its people.
What will we do?
This trip will appeal to individuals who are comfortable in unstructured settings and would like to be challenged. Our time will include:
Learn, grow and exercise our faith in small rural communities by…
• Connecting with a local church as we walk together through villages visiting families and praying with the sick.
• Worshiping together with Africans in their local setting.
• Spending time with children (mostly orphans) in unstructured settings, showing them love, engaging in simple activities, and, teaching very basic Bible curriculum.
Build relationships by…
• Spending time with community leaders and families.
• Learning the culture through mild immersion into life in Malawi so we can more fully understand needs and how best to assist.
• Spending time with people living with HIV / AIDS.
Assist communities familiar to us by…
• Working in small community gardens preparing soil for the next growing season and assessing irrigation needs.
• Helping with breakfast programs for orphans.
• Helping with construction of a church building.
• Distributing supplies at a district hospital and a rural clinic.
• Visiting and working on other projects led by Emmanuel International, one of our key on-the-ground partners in Malawi
When?
The next trip is planned for May 18, 2012.
Consent for Minors
As a general rule, individuals must be legal adult age in order to join a short term mission trip to Malawi. Exceptions may be granted for minors under certain circumstances. Please check with the trip leader.
If a minor child is permitted to join a short term mission trip, please read the government recommendations.
In addition to the recommendations of the government, we require the following:
• A consent letter must accompany the minor.
• The consent letter must be witnessed and certified, stamped or sealed by an appropriate official (i.e. a commissioner for oaths, notary public, lawyer, etc.).
It is the responsibility of the parent(s) to ensure that all requirements for consent are met with the most up-to-date information (e.g. contact with representatives of the country or countries to be visited, contact with the transportation companies, etc., as noted on the government web site).
A sample consent letter can be downloaded for your convenience, however, it is your responsibility to ensure that all requirements noted on the government site are included in your actual authorized letter. Download Sample Consent Letter for Minors.

Passport Requirements
Everyone going on a short-term mission trip must have a current passport. In addition to having a valid passport, it must be current for a specified period of time after your return from the trip. That period of time is 6 months. Using the July 2012 trip as an example…we plan to depart on May 18 and return to Canada on June 2. Your passport must still be current 6 months after June 2 (the date of our return). That means your passport must be current to at least December 2, 2012. If our return is delayed due to any unforeseen airline delays, that would extend the required length of time your passport must be valid. Passport officials take these requirements very seriously, so don’t take any chances. You may want to make sure that your passport is valid for a little more than 6 months after our planned return date as an extra precaution.
